Robbie Collins is a musician from Marin County, California, focused on building community through jamming, studying and practicing with friends at all skill levels. Working primarily from a living room studio at his home in Kentfield, he also performs around the San Francisco Bay Area with Dave Hauser (mandolin), Bill McGivern (guitar) and others, featured on their own page, here. He is inspired by many artists from American folk and rock genres, including Jerry Garcia, Tony Rice and Jorma Kaukonen.
He is a founding member of Sloughgrass, a bluegrass band from Cordova, Alaska, with Rion Schmidt, Aaron Lang and Mike Mickelson (of Bearfoot) and Collins & Cataldo, a folk-rock band from New York City with Paul Cataldo, Tony Montalbano and Eben Pariser. Scott Maher of Dublin (Classic Beatles) helped him record a sophomoric debut album in 2008.
He has also performed with Brennan Gilmore and Brian Calhoun of Walker’s Run (bluegrass band from Lexington, Virginia), Anne-Marie Calhoun (Dave Matthews Band & more), Nat Zilkha of Red Rooster (folk rock band from New York City), and Tyler Madsen and Jason Perry Stevens from the Reality Worship Team (church in San Francisco). Career highlights include performing and jamming with some well-known local favorites, including Bob Weir, Jerry Hannan and Tim Weed.
He studied music at the University of Virginia and the Berklee College of Music and has taught at summer camps in Cordova, Alaska, (with Belle Mickelson of Dances With the Spirit) and in Charlottesville, Virginia (with Fran Smith of Spectrum Camps at Tandem Friends). He also ran his own teaching studio in Charlottesville, near musicians and mentors John D’earth and Pete Vigour.
